Why a tin instead of a tube?
Plastic tubes are single-use garbage by design. The aluminum tin lasts for years, doesn't leach into the balm, and fits in a coin pocket. Less convenient than a twist stick by maybe two seconds. Better in every other way.
What's actually in it?
Five ingredients: sweet almond oil, beeswax, coconut oil, lanolin, vitamin E. Six with mint (that one adds real peppermint oil). No flavour oils, no petroleum, and no synthetic menthol.
The mint one tingles a bit, is that normal?
Yes! Although uncommon, as we use such a low percentage of oil, that's real peppermint oil doing what peppermint does. It's a genuine cooling sensation from the plant, not synthetic menthol engineered to feel aggressive. It fades in a minute.
What's lanolin?
Lanolin comes from sheep's wool. It's collected after shearing; the sheep are unharmed. Worth noting for vegan customers: lanolin and beeswax mean this balm isn't vegan.
Why isn't there tallow in the lip balm?
Similar to why we utilize a different formula for shampoo and conditioner; lips aren't like the rest of your skin. They have no oil glands of their own, so a lip balm's job is different: seal moisture in and condition deeply. Lanolin and beeswax do that job better than tallow would. Tallow earns its place where skin can drink it in. Putting it in the balm anyway would have just been branding, not formulation, and if an ingredient doesn't earn its place, it doesn't go in.
How long does a tin last?
Everyone uses it quite differently, but between 2-4 months of daily use. It's more balm than it looks — a fingertip swipe is plenty... and I mean plenty.
Isn't a finger-applied balm less hygienic than a stick?
Marginally, with clean hands — realistically it's a non-issue. If it bothers you, the back of a clean fingernail lifts a perfect amount.
