Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of beef tallow?
  • Packed with vitamins A, B12, D, E, and K are extremely nourishing for the skin. This particular combination of beneficial vitamins is only found together in animal products.
  • Alpha linoleic and linoleic acids in almost a perfect ratio of 1:1. These are also known as omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, and they maintain the structure and barrier function of the skin. They are also helpful for anti-inflammatory and immune responses in the skin, including eczema and rosacea.
  • Stearic acid and oleic acid are fatty acids that are found in the outer layer of our skin, and in our sebum. They are softening, moisturizer, regenerative, and anti-inflammatory. Stearic acid helps to repair skin,  improve the flexibility of the skin, improves skin’s barrier function. Oleic acid helps the various beneficial nutrients penetrate deeply into skin.
  • Conjugated linoleic acid or CLA has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and is also antimicrobial.
  • Palmitoleic acid is a very active antimicrobial in our skin. It is also one of the basic building blocks of our skin, but it decreases as we age.
  • Palmitic acid helps improve the smoothness of the skin, and helps with skin’s barrier function, and decreases as we age.
  • The natural antimicrobial properties in tallow help to prevent acne and breakouts. Tallow also contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties.

What are the benefits of beef tallow in soap?

In a perfect world, you would want to wash your skin with your own skin — or at least the composition of your skin — beef tallow is the most similar and compatible substitute.

Keeping the listed benefits above in mind, beef tallow does an incredible job at separating the oils and dirt from our skin without stripping our natural oils, as opposed to standard soaps which strip ALL oils (both good and bad) and leave your skin feeling dehydrated and itchy.

What is wrong with the soap available in department stores?

Profit over everything — the "big corporate" motto.

True soap is a slow, detail-oriented, and costly process. All words that would have you fired in a board members meeting.

Most soaps found in your franchise department store(s) aren't actually called "soap", they're labelled with terms such as:

  • Beauty bars
  • Hydrating bars
  • Moisturizing bars

That's because according the FDA, in order to be classified as "soap", it must go through the saponification process. These "bars" commonly use synthetic base because it's not only cheaper, but the product can be made and used almost immediately.

While EVERY soap in your department store isn't awful, most are. Even the ones pretending to be "organic" or "natural". Use your due-diligence and investigate the back of the label... you'll find a lot of large words you're unfamiliar with, but don't shy away from learning what those are.

Dove's beauty bars, for example, have 17 ingredients. Irish Spring's deodorant bars have 12. Old Spice "Red Zone" bars — which should be red flagged — also has 17 ingredients.

O'Naturelle has 3. 4, if it's a scented bar.

These major soap companies use ingredients that can absolutely remove the bacteria on your skin, but at the same time it will strip your body of it's natural oils, which is why you often feel dry, itchy, or "leathery" when you step out of the shower.

Tallow soap vs other "natural" soaps?

If you're using ANY natural soap, as opposed to the most commonly known ones in the cosmetic section of any large department store — I commend you.

Most natural/organic soaps come with a plethora of benefits — keeping in mind the sole duty of "soap" is to keep our skin exactly as it is (if not better) while removing dirt and bad oils — but the purity and compatibility of tallow with human skin is unmatched.

What if I don't like the soap?

You often hear "this product isn't for everyone", but this product truly is. It's a commodity that everyone needs and that everyone benefits from.

That being said, if you aren't satisfied with the product itself or your experience with O'Naturelle, we will 100% refund you.

Every order and customer is personal to us — not in the bullsh*t way corporations call their employees "family" — and at the end of the day, it's about leaving the world in a better place than it was before we got it.
